Here are some tips to help you reset and recharge.
1. Try to get more quality sleep.
I know this one is easier said than done, but this is where establishing boundaries for yourself comes in. Most of us do not get the rest we desperately need because of work and familial commitments. See where you can set yourself up for success by doing specific tasks ahead of time. Check out my IG Post on “Evening Routine: 5 Things to do after 5 PM to Help You Have a Flawless Morning,” for more tips on how to better prep for your night and day.
2. Eat more whole foods.
Again, another lifestyle choice that’s easier said than done, but the truth is, whole foods help to fuel your body and keeps you from experiencing those midday slumps that causes us to crash because of sugar and other unwholesome foods. Try to fuel your body with beautiful and nutritious foods with plenty of protein, healthy fats, fibrous fruits, and color variation. Make eating wholesome exciting by exploring new recipes and getting creative with your meals and snacks. Try to consume less sugar, caffeine, and alcohol.
3. Get moving with variety movements.
If you’re doing high-intensity workouts all the time, slow it down some days with stretching or low-impact exercise such as walking.
4. Add variety to your day.
Instead of starring at your computer screen all day, which again, I am guilty of this but I’m working on it too, get up to meditate or listen to music. Step outside for some fresh air, cross off a chore like folding laundry or unloading your dishwasher (this will also help you to be able to go to bed earlier) but do these activities while listening to music or a podcast. This will help to switch your focus from one task to another and will require different types of energy or stimulation and allow for the recovery from one task.
5. Incorporate more self-care into your day.
Schedule a day off from work to rest and recover. Prepare a delicious and nourishing meal. Complete 5-minute journaling activities. Consume more water. Take time to meditate of focus on breathing. Establish boundaries between work and non-work activities. Listen to your body and what it needs. Don’t push yourself beyond your limits—then you won’t be of any good to yourself or others. Remember, self-care is not selfish.
